In 2023 Dr. Cumbie started a position at ECPI University in Newport News, VA.

 

Dr. Alex Cumbie was a postdoctoral researcher in the Eastwood Disease Ecology Lab in the Dept of Entomology. She specializes in tick ecology and tick-borne diseases specifically spotted fever group rickettsiae. During her time working under Dr. Gillian Eastwood, she cultivated skills in cell culture, serology, and arboviral surveillance. In the lab her main research interests were focused on co-infection dynamics between various bacterial pathogens and Powassan virus in Ixodes scapularis ticks.
