Dr. Siobhan Clemente is a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Fish and Wildlife Conservation working in Dr. Haldre Rogers' research lab. Her research is currently funded by an NSF Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Biology.
Broadly, Siobhan is interested in how plant secondary chemistry mediates interactions with animal pollinators and seed dispersers. In particular, her research focuses on how the chemical traits of fruits and flowers shape animal mutualist behavior and how mutualists in turn impact the expression of such traits. Siobhan’s current postdoctoral work at Virginia Tech focuses on whether bird-dispersed fruiting plants alter the physiology and chemistry of their fruits when their animal mutualists have been extirpated from their environment.
Before joining Virginia Tech, Siobhan completed a Ph.D. in Organismic and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where she studied how domestication alters the floral chemistry of cultivated crops and the role of secondary compounds in self-medication behaviors in bumble bees.
