Dr. Bryce Wade is a postdoctoral associate in the Biological Sciences Department at Virginia Tech. Bryce is a conservation biologist and his research focuses on using diverse tools—including genomics, geospatial modeling, and field-based assessments—to address spatial conservation challenges. Bryce completed his Ph.D. at the University of Tennessee in 2026, where he studied the effects of landscape features on connectivity in four-toed salamanders (Hemidactylium scutatum) and how this information can be used in management frameworks. His research also addressed how important elements such as spatio-temporal landscape variation and site replication affect inferences in landscape genetics. Bryce is especially passionate about working with amphibians and reptiles and uses photography to shed light on these often-overlooked organisms.
As a member of the Mims Lab at Virginia Tech, Bryce is part of a long-term restoration project for the endangered reticulated flatwoods salamander (Ambystoma bishopi) in north Florida. His work centers on using geospatial and genomic methods to inform the management and future recovery of this imperiled salamander. In addition, Bryce is conducting research on temporal genomic patterns on the endangered Barton Springs salamander (Eurycea sosorum) in central Texas.
