Dr. Kirker is an assistant professor of hydrologic sciences in the Department of Forest Resources and Environmental Conservation (FREC) at Virginia Tech. Her research focuses on the legacy of human modifications on the hydrologic cycle and combines modeling and monitoring of streams, wetlands, and stormwater control measures. She is interested in linking the geomorphic impacts of landuse to changes in groundwater-surface water interactions, riparian health, and downstream water quality. Her research group is investigating the impact of legacy mining on headwater streams, agricultural ditching on isolated wetlands, and floodplain reconnection on urban streams. Additionally, Dr. Kirker has a partial appointment at the Virginia Water Resources Research center and teaches undergraduate courses on Forest Soils and Watershed Management and Watershed Assessment, Management, and Policy.
