Fossil Unwrapping Party Engages Local Community
November 18, 2025
Virginia Tech’s Department of Geosciences hosted a Fossil Unwrapping Party in October, drawing over 140 attendees to explore 200-million-year-old Triassic fossils from Arizona and Texas. GCC faculty affiliate Dr. Michelle Stocker kicked off the evening with an introductory talk, and VT paleo grads and undergrads served as “floating experts” guiding guests through hands-on stations in the newly renovated Fossil Preparation Lab and Museum of Geosciences. The free event welcomed VT students, K–12 teachers, and community members to unwrap, label, and curate fossils, offering a unique opportunity to engage with science in action.
